TIG Aesthetics Trailing Shield – Inert Trailing Gas Protection for Reactive Metals
The TIG Aesthetics Trailing Shield is the ultimate solution for welding highly reactive metals where a controlled inert environment is critical. Designed to deliver consistent post-weld argon coverage, the trailing shield protects the weldment from oxidation while allowing increased travel speed, improved weld quality and appearance.
Manufactured from high-temperature silicone, the trailing shield is engineered to withstand the heat absorbed by any #16 or 1" GTAW welding cup, maintaining its structural integrity up to 100 amp welding applications. A built-in drag bar at the tail of the shield helps prevent direct contact with heated material, improving control and durability during extended weld passes.
At the core of the system is TIG Aesthetics’ proven multi-layer stainless steel screen diffuser, combined with a titanium shower head diffuser fitting. This integrated diffuser system provides excellent engagement to the silicone body while delivering smooth, evenly distributed argon flow across the weld zone. The reinforced diffuser design offers superior gas coverage, making it especially effective on large-diameter tubing.
For consistent setup and repeatable results, the trailing shield includes a titanium hose retention tab that snaps onto the torch back cap. This aligns the argon inlet hose perfectly straight into the shield body, maintaining uniform gas flow even while manipulating torch angle during welding. For optimal performance, the use of a TIG Aesthetics 6mm argon purge line is recommended.
User Setup Tips
- Recommended gas flow: 15–20 SCFH (dependent on weldment size and environment)
- Run a test pass on practice material to dial in flow rate and travel speed
- Ensure the argon hose is aligned straight into the shield using the hose retention tab
- Add our 6mm Argon purge line to connect to your flow meter
